In late August 2005, Michael "Mike" R. Laughlin shared an idea with his son, Arthur — help New Orleans property owners fight incorrect tax assessments. Mike owned several Uptown properties and knew firsthand what inaccurate assessments cost real people. When Hurricane Katrina struck just days later, those plans were put on hold. But the mission never was.
Mike began filing appeals and learned the process from the inside out — including the inner workings of the Assessor's Office and the Board of Review. Arthur joined him in 2016, and their early results spoke for themselves: approximately $80,000 in savings on a single commercial property and $50,000 on a residential one.
Arthur officially formed Louisiana Property Tax Consultants LLC and committed himself full time. The firm expanded statewide in 2020. Through results, experience, and professionalism, it became the largest single filer of property tax assessment appeals in Louisiana — filing approximately 400 appeals per year with a success rate of around 70%.

The company and the Laughlin family suffered a profound loss when Mike passed away after a heroic battle with cancer. His legacy lives on in every appeal we file.
The new owners acquired Louisiana Property Tax Consultants LLC to carry forward its founding mission: helping Louisiana property owners challenge unfair assessments and pursue fair treatment under the law.
